How to Play & Rules

1. General

  • Contestants must tip the winners and their margins for each match in a round of AFL football prior to the commencement of that round.
  • The competition is based on the 24 rounds of “home and away” AFL games.
  • Tipping for each match must include a winning team and an estimated winning margin for each match.
  • A draw cannot be selected. Points will be awarded for both accuracy of margin tips and correct winner predictions.
  • Contestants must register through the Registration page.
  • Contestants must send tips through the Submit Tips page for the current round or in the format as set out in Rule 4 Weekly Entries for future rounds.

2. Scoring

  • Each player will receive a starting allowance or ante of 30 points per match.
  • From the initial 30 point allowance, a deduction being the difference between selected and actual margins.
  • If the player selects the correct winner of the match, that player receives an additional bonus of 30 points.
  • If the player nominates both the correct winner and the correct margin, they receive a further bonus of 30 points making a total of 90 points for the match.
  • Should a player select 9 winners in a round, an additional 50  point bonus will be awarded.
  • The winner will be the contestant with the highest total score at the completion of Round 24.
  • It is the entrants responsibility to ensure that their results have been compiled correctly and to advise the administrator of any errors.

3. Examples

Simple Explanation

If you pick the winner, your points are 60 minus the difference between selected and actual margins, unless your were spot on and then you get 90.

If you picked the losing team, it's 30 minus the difference between selected and actual margins.

Example 1: Cats vs. Hawks, Hawks win by 26 points

Tipper 1               Hawks by 12 points, picked the winner & was 14 points out from actual margin.
Ante of 30 pts minus difference between selected and actual margins , plus Winner bonus of 30 pts

TOTAL  =  (30 – 14) + 30 = 46 pts scored

Tipper 2               Cats by 1 point, picked the loser & was 27 points out from actual margin.
Ante of 30 pts minus difference between selected and actual margins, with no Winner bonus

TOTAL  = 30 – 27 = 3 pts scored

Tipper 3               Hawks by 26 points, picked the winner by the correct margin.
Ante of 30 pts minus difference between selected and actual margins , plus Winner bonus of 30 pts, plus Correct Margin bonus of 30 pts

TOTAL  =  (30 – 0) + 30 + 30 = 90 pts scored

Example 2: Drawn Game

No bonuses for Winner or Correct Margin; draws cannot be selected.
Therefore Total in each case is initial ante of 30 points minus the difference between selected and actual margins. Using the tips from Example 1 above:

Tipper 1     30 – 12  = 18
Tipper 2     30 – 1 = 29
Tipper 3     30 – 26  = 4
