The Dogs made another Thursday night appearance at Marvel where they were severely outclassed by the Crows. For old timers like your humble correspondent, a trip to watch the Dogs on a Thursday night used to involve a lengthy trip to Sandown Park to bet on the dish-lickers. More often than not, the end result at Sandown was as disappointing as this game was for Bulldog fans.
In what can only be described as a marketing masterstroke, the Cats unveiled their so-called ‘White Out’ game against the Suns. All-white jumpers, white headbands, fans waving white flags and Barry White songs after every goal. Geelong is such a fun place! Cats fans had fun - their team may have been hoop-less, but they made the Suns look hopeless.
Essendon’s horror year took another gruesome turn after the latest gristly loss to the Demons. Strangely, Melbourne were the only team they have managed to beat in the last 12 months. No one was fooled by this, with everyone picking the winner. Don went one better with the margin.
The other two Saturday matches were real cliffhangers, with the Roos and the Swans saluting by one and three points respectively. The Roos used their homeground advantage (playing at their opponent’s home ground) to cling on in the dying seconds. The home crowd did not seem to enjoy it all that much. Anna certainly enjoyed it after pinpointing the margin.
Yet another nail biting finish for Sydney, the fourth in the last six weeks. Its caused a severe outbreak of Onychophagia amongst Swans fans. We should probably spare a thought for Port who have lost five games by three points or less this year.
On Sunday, the Tigers and the Lions locked claws, deep in the jungles of Hobart. Did everyone realise that the Tigers were at home in Tassie when they did their tips? Sadly for the Thylacines, they were very hard to find after half time. Well done to Carmel and Rod who found the margin.
If we were to make a bold prediction about the outcome of this year’s tipping comp, it may well be won by the person who can best work out what the hell St Kilda and GWS are going to do each week. Needless to say, tipsters were evenly divided when the two met on Sunday. This time the Saints were victotious, but don’t let this result fool you when doing next week’s tips. Both Don and Rod each racked up their second bullseye for the round. Peter B was on target as well.
Well done to Brad, Liam C and Paddy C who each found all seven winners. But it was Rod who got the highest score for the round; his two bullseyes helping him to 324 points.
Jay Jay still leads, closely followed by Fletcher. The pair have a handy buffer from Izzy & Amelia, with a few other pursuants closing in.
